Computer Sciences Corporation announced that it has been awarded a nine-year contract with the United Kingdom’s National Health Service (NHS) as part of the NHS’ Connecting for Health program to improve healthcare service for patients in the North East and East of England. The contract is valued at $3.73 billion (1,965 million pounds sterling) if all options are exercised.
CSC is taking over a contract from consultancy Accenture to upgrade computer systems for the NHS.
The transfer of the contract will give fresh hope for the 6.2 billion pound upgrade, which is one of the world's biggest IT projects but is running about two years behind schedule.
