Wipro Technologies is acquiring Portugal's Enabler, a European-based retail technology specialist, in an all cash deal valuing the company at around €41m. Enabler was created in 1997 when Portuguese retailer Modelo Continente spun-out its IT department. Enabler is an Oracle Retail (Retek) solutions integrator and sells to large retailers.
Enabler employs over 300 staff and has delivery centres in Portugal and Brazil. Customers include retailers in Portugal, UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Middle East and Brazil. It targets the food, fashion and DIY sectors. According to Wipro, Enabler's revenues were approximately €30m over 2005.
This is Wipro’s fifth acquisition in six months. It is in keeping with its so-called “string of pearls” policy of growing via buying smaller companies.
Wipro is India's third largest software exporter with revenues of over $1 billion.
