Bank of Ireland will outsource some of its training and purchasing operations in a €150 million-plus deal with Accenture.
The seven-year agreement is the latest phase of a major cost cutting program aimed at reducing annual operating expenses by €120 million over the next four years. It is thought that the Accenture deal could save the bank €20 million a year.
(Article continues below)The bank will outsource its non-core services from early next year, while implementing a new HR structure to streamline the provision of HR services. Around 180 staff members will be affected and will either be transferred to Accenture, moved to another role within the bank or asked to take voluntary redundancy.
Bank of Ireland is no stranger to outsourcing, having moved the management of much of its IT infrastructure to Hewlett-Packard in November 2003 and its networks to BT in March 2004.
