Exel, a UK-based logistics service provider, has won a GBP 21 million logistics outsourcing contract from Network Rail, the British rail infrastructure management company. The three year contract also has an optional extension period of two years.

Under the agreement, Exel will be responsible for Network Rail’s inventory management, warehousing and nationwide distribution. In addition, the company will be deploying its Engineering Response product, to provide end-to-end supply chain solutions, including just-in-time deliveries to 2,000 Network Rail engineers across the country.

The company will use its existing distribution center at Worcester, UK as a dedicated National Distribution Center (NDC) and will be responsible for managing inventory at 320 Network Rail remote stock locations around the UK. Exel will undertake nationwide distribution of individual products and kits of materials to these sites, and will also continue to operate a dedicated call center in West Bromwich, co-coordinating materials orders and requests from Network Rail engineers.
