Fast food chain giant Jollibee Foods Corp. has committed more investments to implement the second phase of its automation project that would focus on business intelligence capabilities of the group. After investing R115 million (over USD 2 million) for its shared services center that started in 2002, the next step is “to build the business intelligence layer to begin by the end of the year," according to Paul Zaldarriaga, Jollibee’s vice president for shared services.
Jollibee is a showcase of Oracle’s success story in the fast food industry in the Philippines. About 90 percent of the company’s systems are running on Oracle’s integrated applications and technology platform — E-Business Suite that include financials, human capital management, purchasing and database. In the next phase of business intelligence, "we wanted to know how much we’re buying from suppliers, the real-time information, the best practices in the industry and we don’t want to be lagged behind by our competitors," said Zaldarriaga.
The business intelligence layer is expected to improve the group’s inventory planning and its overall information management.
The first phase involved the shift to shared services model which started in 2002 that co-located various key support functions of Jollibee, Greenwich, Chowking and Delifrance under one consolidated business unit.
The company has previously deployed ERP (enterprise resource planning) systems across the entire conglomerate with fragmented data systems as a result of using different ERPs. There was data duplication and lack of data integrity.
The key benefits after deploying an integrated Oracle applications and technology platform resulted in improved overall system availability and reliability with no data duplication, reduced cost with the use of Linux open source platform and established a good foundation for business intelligence.
"The shared services model would help us achieve productivity and leverage on economy of scale for the group," Zaldarriaga added.
