East Lancashire Financial Services (NHS) today announce their subscription to OB10, the global e-Invoicing network. Membership of OB10 is part of an initiative to increase efficiencies within NHS shared services and deliver future economies of scale.
East Lancashire Financial Services was established three years ago to provide the full range of financial services to four primary care trusts, one acute hospital, one learning disabilities trust, and one strategic health authority. Under the guidance of the Gershon Report, East Lancashire are also improving their economies of scale by acting as an outsource provider to other NHS organisations. The addition of OB10, will also enable East Lancashire to make their BPO offering more competitive.East Lancashire Financial Services currently process 160,000 paper invoices a year. With OB10, suppliers send invoice data from their billing system directly into East Lancashire’s accounting system, reducing the need to manually process paper.
Says Graham Gornall, Director of Financial Shared Services in East Lancashire, “As a shared services centre and a BPO provider, we are always looking for ways to cut costs and reduce error-prone manual paper processing. OB10 fits with our “lights-out” vision of processing which will create further efficiencies and improve processes.”
As part of the membership, OB10 manage the enrolment of East Lancashire’s suppliers to the network. Suppliers joining the network are not required to implement any new hardware or software and so far, the response has been positive. When East Lancashire approached OB10, they found that 80 of their suppliers were already members of the OB10 network. This means that East Lancashire will see a reduction in paper processing very early in the supplier enrolment campaign.
“Receiving invoices electronically will significantly improve our processes”, says Gornall. “This in turn, will mean that we can offer best practice services to smaller NHS organisations and achieve full economies of scale. Membership to OB10 will also improve relationships with key suppliers.”
Says Jamie Gunn, COO, OB10, “At present we see a clear government focus on creating efficiencies in the public sector. East Lancashire Financial Services are extremely proactive in trying to achieve best practice processes in the back office, and we are extremely pleased that OB10 will play a part in this.”
