Salary levels look set to remain on an upward curve across all sectors in 2005, according to a recruitment firm. Recruitment specialist Robert Walters' annual global salary survey shows that there has been a marked increase in recruitment activity across several sectors as Ireland continues to benefit from an export-orientated environment.
The global survey offers analysis of both salaries commanded and current trends within each sector of the market, and looks at the Irish market in detail. The Irish recruitment market has become more candidate-driven than company driven, the survey found.
Remuneration packages are seen as increasingly important weapons in the battle to win high calibre recruits as top candidates have been receiving multiple offers for the first time in 18 months, according to the survey.
Recruitment in the finance, legal and accounting sectors has been boosted by the shift to IAS and regulatory changes such as Sarbanes-Oxley, the firm said.
Pharmaceuticals, construction, property, mobile telecoms and support and shared services are all sectors that have seen salary levels rise steadily.
In addition, a shortage of experienced staff means that employers need to offer attractive salaries and benefits packages combined with career opportunities to attract the right staff, the firm said.
Louise Kelly, director of Robert Walters Ireland said: "Companies continue to demand commitment and a proven track record in a particular discipline or sector.
"As such, salaries are set to remain on an upward curve with career progression and stability remaining high on a candidates' list of priorities.
"Companies need to factor in such detail when formulating a suitable package to ensure that they attract the right people."
