Hewlett-Packard will establish its regional computer technology supply chain headquarters for Europe, the Middle East and Africa in the Czech Republic during the 1st half of the next year, thereby creating 75 new highly qualified job positions and investing 0.85 million USD.
“In choosing a location for our investment we wanted to support our activities in Europe, while the attractive investment climate in the Czech Republic and the qualified work force also played a great role,” said Julien Massol, PSG EMEA Supply-Chain Manager, Hewlett-Packard.“Central and Eastern Europe is a dynamically growing market where our business is growing faster than in Western Europe or the U.S.,” commented Jan Zadak, Vice President and Managing Director for ISE Region, Hewlett-Packard, and added: “HP’s revenues in the regions of Europe, the Middle East and Africa in the fourth fiscal quarter this year rose by 11 percent, which represents 40 % of company revenue worldwide.”
The Czech headquarters will be responsible for some of the processes that drive production and distribution of personal computers across all EMEA (the region covering all countries of Europe, the Middle East and Africa). It will thus supplement HP’s headquarters in Grenoble, France, which will remain the group’s principal head office for EMEA. HP looks forward to this second headquarter operations to support its impressive growth in Europe, Middle East and Africa and especially in Central and Eastern Europe. The Prague central office will consist of these working teams: an engineering team of personal consumer and commercial PC products and a team for purchasing and planning.
“Among the benefits of this investment project is the fact that it will create indirect jobs which will be created here mainly owing to the transfer of part of Hewlett-Packard’s suppliers’ activities to the Czech Republic. Also important is the establishment of cooperation with Czech technical and economic universities and universities in Grenoble, France. Thanks to the study programmes that HP will sponsor and activate as early as the first half of 2005, French and Czech colleges will be able to exchange students who in turn will benefit from international internships in HP’s organizations,” added Petra Polednova from CzechInvest’s foreign marketing department.
This decision of Hewlett-Packard confirms the rising interest of investors in locating their company headquarters to the Czech Republic. The attractiveness of the Czech metropolis is also supported by the results of a study by Cushman Wakefield Healey European Cities Monitor: “Prague has improved in all monitored criteria. Today it is known by more businessmen than Stockholm, for example. Its popularity is rising thanks to the prices for office space and thanks to the language skills of the work force,” commented Jonathan Hallett, partner and CEO of Cushman & Wakefield Healey & Baker in the Czech Republic.
