The Enterprise Mobility Company, a unit of the IT firm Symbol Technologies, has opened a shared services center in the Moravian capital of Brno, the firm announced in a press release.

The center will cover the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) region, The10,000-square-metre facility will serve as the hub for Symbol's EMEA customer support services including a repair center, multi-lingual customer call center, finance, contract administration and sales ordering operations.

The center is expected to be fully operational by December 2004.

"The Brno location was selected because the region offers a highly skilled local workforce, a central location and proximity to Symbol's existing operations and customer base in Europe," the firm says.

Initially the center will employ 200 people, but that should rise to 500 in the future. The center will be managed by Petr Herskovic, who came to Symbol from the Invensys Corporation, where he was plant manager of Slovak operations. Herskovic is a graduate of Brno's Technical University.

The Enterprise Mobility Company is a global leader in enterprise mobility, delivering products and solutions that capture, move and manage information in real time to and from the point of business activity.
