Ariba, Inc., the leading Enterprise Spend Management (ESM) solutions provider, today announced that it has agreed to acquire Alliente, Inc., a privately-held procurement Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) provider.

The move expands Ariba's capabilities in the emerging market for managed procurement services, a subset of the multi-billion dollar BPO market, and positions Ariba as the leading provider of outsourced spend management.

"Ariba customers are recognizing the immense value to be gained in deploying an enterprise-wide spend management strategy, and they also want options in the way they approach the process," said Bob Calderoni, president and CEO, Ariba. "This acquisition broadens our service capabilities by enabling us to integrate Alliente's managed services model with our own proven ESM solutions to help our customers achieve savings faster while getting more categories of spend under control."

"Early in our history we standardized on the Ariba platform to provide application hosting, transaction processing and a variety of category-specific managed services for our customers," said Greg Spray, chief operations officer, Alliente. "We see this acquisition as a natural fit, and we are proud to join forces with Ariba to deliver the industry's most comprehensive solution for spend management."

Under terms of the agreement, Ariba will acquire all outstanding shares of Alliente. The transaction is expected to close later this month, subject to customary closing conditions.
