Imperial Sugar Company (Nasdaq:IPSU) today announced that it has been awarded the Wharton Infosys Organization-Wide Business Transformation Award (WIBTA) for transforming business processes at Imperial Sugar Company by providing seamless, fast and leading edge customer service through the Novell exteNd Web application development suite.
One of the largest sugar refiners and processors in the United States, Imperial Sugar has recently focused its efforts on leveraging technology to enhance one of its traditional strengths -- customer service. Imperial Sugar used the Novell exteNd Web application development suite to accomplish its vision of a real-time, collaborative, self-service extranet to transform its customer-focused business processes. As a result, the company has continuously increased the amount of business conducted using the extranet, for which it was recognized for this award. The awards, a joint initiative of the William and Phyllis Mack Center for Technological Innovation at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and Infosys Technologies Ltd., a global leader in IT consulting and software services, recognize companies that have revolutionized their business or industry through the creative application of technology. Divided into two categories -- Enterprise Business Transformation and Technology Change Agent -- the awards are based on the level of innovation, thought leadership and transformational results represented by the entrants. Imperial Sugar Company was the recipient of the Wharton Infosys Organization-Wide Business Transformation Award. The award was presented to Imperial Sugar Company's Mark Clemmons, Director of eBusiness, last week at a gala ceremony at the Waldorf Astoria in New York.
Imperial Sugar used the Novell exteNd suite to Web service-enable its order processing system and make it available to customers via the Web. The resulting Imperial Extranet provides customers with direct access to their purchasing and order information and enables Imperial Sugar to closely align its objectives with those of its customers.
George Muller, vice president and chief information officer for Imperial Sugar, said, "We wanted to make it so easy to do business with Imperial Sugar that it would seem hard to do business with anyone else -- this was our vision. To implement the vision, we relied on the Novell exteNd Web application development suite to provide the technology foundation for the project. The results have been outstanding and we are thrilled to be recognized with the prestigious Wharton Infosys Business Transformation Award for our efforts."
Mr. N R Narayana Murthy, chairman and chief mentor of Infosys and a Wharton Infosys Business Transformation Award panelist, congratulated Imperial Sugar on its achievement and said, "Imperial Sugar Company recognizes that today's business is about enabling the flow of information through technology. We are happy to confer this award on Imperial Sugar for demonstrating exceptional leadership and best practices by leveraging technology to enhance business value and create new paradigms."
"The high level of response and interest that the awards have generated is a clear affirmation of the power of technology to create a business differentiator, and we have great pleasure in congratulating Imperial Sugar Company for its accomplishment," said Patrick Harker, dean of the Wharton School.
