More than 90% of U.S. companies rely on outsourcing to meet critical business needs, according to a report by business research firm, Cutting Edge Information. The report indicates American companies have transformed outsourcing into a source of corporate strength, rather than a method to conceal internal weaknesses.

Cutting Edge Information today released an updated version of its best- selling report, "Outsourcing from Strength," available at http://www.cuttingedgeinfo.com/Reports/FL50--Outsourcing.htm . The updated report contains 50% new information, including an executive presentation demonstrating outsourcing's acceptance as a trusted business practice.

The report reveals how top companies such as General Electric, General Motors, IBM, Disney, Pfizer and Microsoft have used outsourcing to increase their focus on critical core competencies and drive bottom-line profits, even in a slow economy.

"Outsourcing is a critical tool for responding to choppy economic times," said Cutting Edge Information's CEO Jason Richardson. "Companies must rapidly determine what to outsource, which vendors to use and how to continuously improve to stay ahead of the competition."

Case studies and lessons learned come from hundreds of outsourcing deals covering functions including human resources, information technology, financial management, new product development, product testing, marketing services and other key areas. Metrics and practices from "Outsourcing From Strength" include:

- Top drivers of outsourcing failure and how to avoid them while planning and contracting
- Dollar values and strategic goals for outsourcing contracts worth up to $2 billion
- Percentages of companies conducting strategic vs. tactical outsourcing
- Categorized reasons for beginning an outsourcing process
- Differences in what vendors and clients value
